HIGH SCHOOL DANCE LESSONS
High School dance students are passionate and supportive of each other at S5DC. We leverage past training to start developing professional-quality dancers, while also encouraging students to join us on a recreational basis and explore their love of dance in a range of styles.
High school ballet is where all the training and hard work begins to pay off. Once students have an understanding of proper placement, alignment, balance, technique and control, they can master difficult moves and present professional-quality routines. We also welcome beginners to our recreational ballet classes for teens.
Jazz is a stylized, fast paced form of dance that employs many of the same concepts of ballet, but puts it to a more upbeat music and some different technical aspects. We focus on strength, technique, vocabulary and terminology, plus dynamic music and fun moves!
Lyrical is a form of creative expression; a story set in motion. This form has a fusion of ballet and jazz which combines one’s own expression along with technical skills. Dancers must have a solid dance technique base for this class.
A free, expressive style of dance that was started as a rebellion against ballet. This style of dance incorporates elements such as contraction and release, fall and recovery, and floor work.
Contemporary blends ballet with jazz for a more fluid dance form. Students appreciate this flowing style and its less structured costumes. They leverage the skills learned in early jazz and ballet lessons to build their technique as contemporary dancers.
Dance, sing, act! Students with stars in their eyes use musical theater lessons to round out their stage skills. Lessons incorporate modern and traditional hits to share the many highlights of the musical theater world.
Clogging is a percussive style of folk dance that is a combination of tap and Irish Step dance. This dance style is similar to tap except that the shoes have two taps instead of one. This creates a louder sound with even more rhythm. There are many styles of clogging from traditional to a more modern version.
Hip Hop is the dance style most frequently seen on television and music videos. Movements are fast, bouncy and funky! Lots of attitude is needed for this class! A jazz background is helpful for children who are learning hip hop.
Acro combines classical dance technique with precision acrobatic elements. Students can learn the most basic elements up to complex aerials. This type of training also helps with flexibility.
