Middle School (6th – 8th Grade)
MIDDLE SCHOOL DANCE LESSONS
As students grow, they master the foundations of dance and begin to explore more complicated moves and routines. Our middle school students form a strong and connected young community, supporting each other as they learn.
Ballet
Ballet training is the foundation of dance. It teaches proper placement, alignment, balance, technique and control. The focus is on body positioning, center and barre work and vocabulary/terminology but we still encourage our young students to get moving and have fun while they’re learning.
Tap
Tap is all about rhythm! This dance form is an exciting and challenging form that creates sounds, rhythm and syncopation with your feet. Tap helps kids with coordination and timing!
Jazz
Jazz is a stylized, fast paced form of dance that employs many of the same concepts of ballet, but puts it to a more upbeat music and some different technical aspects. We focus on strength, technique, vocabulary and terminology, plus dynamic music and fun moves!
Modern
A free, expressive style of dance that was started as a rebellion against ballet. This style of dance incorporates elements such as contraction and release, fall and recovery, and floor work.
Lyrical
Lyrical is a form of creative expression; a story set in motion. This form has a fusion of ballet and jazz which combines one’s own expression along with technical skills. Dancers must have a solid dance base for this class.
Musical Theatre
Dance, sing, act! Students with stars in their eyes use musical theater lessons to round out their stage skills. Lessons incorporate modern and traditional hits to share the many highlights of the musical theater world.
Hip Hop
Hip Hop is the style most frequently seen on television and music videos. Movements are fast, bouncy and funky! Lots of attitude is needed for this class! A jazz background is helpful for children who are learning this style.
Clogging
Clogging is a percussive style of folk dance that is a combination of tap and Irish Step dance. This dance style is similar to tap except that the shoes have two taps instead of one. This creates a louder sound with even more rhythm. There are many styles of clogging from traditional to a more modern version. Kids love hearing the sounds they make as they master new steps.
Acro
Acro combines classical dance technique with precision acrobatic elements. Students can learn the most basic elements up to complex aerials. This type of training also helps with flexibility.
