Studio Five is thrilled to be offering dance classes for children and adults with special needs including Down’s Syndrome, Autism, and Cerebral Palsy. Dancing has been shown to benefit individuals with special needs in a variety of ways. The rhythmic patterns of music and movement often resonate at a much deeper level in people living with special needs than language or even pictures can. People who have difficulty remembering written words will get a boost to their self-esteem when they recognize a melody or a beat and repeat the movements they have learned. Our developmentally appropriate curriculum and loving atmosphere provide the perfect environment for children and adults with special needs to explore the art of dance.
Our once a month Friday classes are free of charge. Classes typically meet on the first Friday (check website for changes) of every month from 5:00 pm-6:00 pm. This class is designed to be a fun, social class that focuses on building relationships between the special needs dancers and our volunteers. The dancers follow the instructions in the listen and move songs, get their wiggles and energy out, work on gross motor skills, and have fun dancing with their buddy volunteer. Dancers will perform in the recital. Dancers should attend all classes from January-May in order to learn the recital dance.
We provide qualified instructors who are certified teachers as well as student volunteers to make sure participants learn dance, work on motor skills and get some social interaction in a fun-filled, loving environment.
