Meghan Retseck

Owner | Director

Meghan Retseck’s passion has been dance since she was 3 years old when she saw her first ballet, Coppelia. She has trained extensively in ballet, pointe, tap, jazz, lyrical, and modern. Throughout her dance training, Meghan competed at local and national competitions winning many awards. After earning the prestigious North Carolina Teaching Fellows scholarship in 1998, Meghan was able to pursue her degree in Dance Education from Meredith College. While at Meredith, she had the privilege of being a member of the Meredith Dance Theatre, touring with the North Carolina Dance Festival, and working with modern choreographers Gerri Houlihan, David Dorfman, Doug Varone, and Lisa Race.

Meghan taught modern, tap, jazz, lyrical, ballet, pointe, and preschool dance at several local dance studios before landing at Studio Five Dance Company in 2009. After many years on staff, Meghan bought Studio Five Dance Company in 2015. As owner of Studio Five she has more than doubled the students in the studio, written class curriculum, hired exceptional staff, and raised the level of technique and mastery of the students.  She developed the Tippy Toes and Tappy Feet Program, giving the preschool age levels a path to progress through their formative years and combine creativity and fun with a strong foundation. Meghan’s choreography and Synergy Company dancers have been recognized at regional and national competitions.

Outside of the studio, for the past eighteen years, Meghan has been a dance educator in the Wake County Public School System. Her students have had the privilege of being selected to perform in Pieces of Gold, at Disney’s Magic Music Days in Orlando, Florida, and in NYC. She was a part of the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction Committee that wrote the new Dance Education Essential Standards. She served on the Governor’s Teacher Network in 2015 where she wrote curriculum and professional development.

Meghan was accepted into the Dance Studio Owner Association’s Inner Circle in 2017 – a mastermind group of dance studio owners. She also enjoys learning from and collaborating with other dance studio owners. She was honored to be asked to present at two different Inner Circle retreats. Now a mentor with DSOA, she guides and counsels international instructors and studio owners. Meghan enjoys fostering a love of dance in each of her students. Meghan lives in Fuquay with her husband Mike, their two daughters, Mikaela and Reaghan, and their two sons Liam and Ryan.
